Meet Janice – Acting Teacher and Theatre Director in Copenhagen
Janice is a freelance theatre director, writer, and acting tutor with over 30 years of experience in theatre and the performing arts. Originally from Liverpool in the UK, she is now based in Copenhagen and works internationally across Europe.
She trained at Leeds University (Bretton Hall), where she earned a degree in Drama and Physical Theatre. Throughout her career, Janice has directed numerous theatre productions, new play premieres, and educational projects, while also working as a writer, dramaturg, movement director, and facilitator.
Her adaptation of Everyman toured across Europe, and many of her plays for children, young people, and family audiences have been performed hundreds of times. She writes in both English and Danish, and some of her work is published in Denmark.
In the UK, Janice served as Associate Director at two major theatres, the Belgrade Theatre in Coventry and the Mercury Theatre in Colchester. During this time she directed productions such as Romeo and Juliet, Chicago, Guys and Dolls, and the world premiere of Howard Barker’s The Europeans.
Janice has also directed projects in drama schools and led theatre initiatives in the UK and Denmark, including work supported by Arts Council England. After more than 20 years with the European theatre summer school organisation LEATSS, she has recently been appointed its Artistic Director.
